We had made a reservation a couple of nights before (required because it's so popular) and had a 7pm reservation to sit outside on one of their two terraces. While the sun was beating on us when we got there, we witnessed the sunset over the course of our meal.
The only real reason I'm finishing out our Manarola time with a post about this restaurant is to be able to tell you about the crazy appetizer we got. Te guidebooks encourage you to try the antipasti di mare, the seafood antipasti, as it's well done in the Cinque Terre - fresh and delicious. We had done it a few nights earlier at another restaurant and got a dinner plate with 5 tastings of different kinds of seafood. That was the first time I had ever an anchovy - not too bad when fresh and in salt and olive oil.
The Mixed Antipasto di Mare is a special at Trattoria dal Billy and included 12 different things. We knew from the price it would be a bit more than the previous place, but we had no idea that this is what we would get:
I literally laughed out loud when the waiter delivered all the dishes, but it was DELISH!!!!! Totally worth the money and the surprise.
