A Day in Manarola

We spent our first day in Manarola completely chilling out. We slept in, ate breakfast around 11:30am, and then went swimming before more napping and reading. Before sunset, we did a walk though the Manarola vineyards so that at sunset we were on the path facing the village and could try and get some nice sunset pictures of the town. We went to dinner around 9pm and didn't finish up until after 11pm. A fine, fine, day. A few (ok several) scenes from the day...

Pictures taken in the morning from the window in our room

Breakfast....focaccia all day for me!

Manarola from the water

The water is incredibly clear...can you see the fish in this one?

Jumping into the Mediterranean

Reading on the terrace post-swim and gelato

The vineyard walk started in the church square where the older Manarolians were hanging out and. They were adorable. I want to retire here with them.

We have really only seen dogs of one size in Manarola - the dachshund, French pug size. Every time we see another one, I say to Todd "what size dog are you allowed to have in Manarola? That size dog." Makes sense - it's tiny here.

Our vineyard walk...

Stopped at the cemetery

We found an Elena.

And then caught a lovely sunset and thanks to my tripod, some lovely pictures of Manarola at dusk.

P.S. Our friend James is a wine expert and when we asked him, prior to leaving, what we should drink in Italy, he immediately said, "In Cinque Terre, drink the house wine. You'll get to taste wines that never make it out of the region, and if it's good enough for the locals, it will be good."

Done. Hard to see, but it's white wine from Manarola and Riomaggiore.

James is a genius. I suggest checking in with him before traveling. We've got lists for Venice and Milan too!
