Boating Around the Cinque Terre: Vernazza

Our day of boating was planned so that we would end in Vernazza and be there for sunset to get some pictures. Vernazza, it turns out, is the village I kept seeing in pictures that made me say 'I want to go there' and led to discovering the Cinque Terre. Basically, it's the reason we're here. It's called the jewel of the Cinque Terre (though I'm now in love with Manarola myself) and sadly, was the one most devastated by the floods of October 2011. Now, it's not easy to see any obvious damage in the downtown area which has since been rebuilt, but most shops have pictures of the post-flood devastation. Heartbreaking.

Once again, my trusty tripod helped me get some lovely pictures while also incurring the jealously of the German photographer I set up near. She was apparently astonished at how light and compact our tripod was and minutes after our conversation, her husband had pulled it up on Amazon and was on his way to ordering it.

I was tired after our day of boating, so I didn't stay until the sun totally set. I'm a wimp, I know. We headed back to Manarola where I took these last pictures of the setting sun from our window. The farthest lights in the first picture are Monterosso and the ones a bit closer but not the closest are Corniglia.

We think, based on our Star Walk app, that the bright star in this picture is actually Saturn.

Tomorrow, we walk to Corniglia.
