It’s Monday morning in Sydney, and we’ve once again woke up to rain. This will not stop us however! It’s not everyday you’re in Sydney, so you brave the weather and keep exploring. We arrived on Saturday afternoon just before a huge thunderstorm hit Sydney. Luckily, by the time we got our luggage, went through customs, and got our shuttle to the hotel, the rain had passed. After unpacking and getting changed (it was 27 degrees C which is really warm), we headed out and made a beeline to the Opera House. It’s beautiful when you see it on TV, and even more amazing in person! Ditto with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. After the Opera House, we headed to The Rocks and wandered around the neighborhoods.
On Saturday, in 4 hours, we saw - and I'm NOT kidding - 21 brides getting pictures taken somewhere outside!
Sunday was rainy, but that didn’t stop these intrepid explorers. We (relatively) successfully navigated the metro to Circular Quay (pronounced ‘key’) which is where all the ferries leave to traverse the harbour, and there are more lovely views of the Opera House. I swear, I'm going to take a picture of the Opera House everyday.
From there, we went to The Rocks Market, a weekly outdoor (under tents) market filled with crafters, souvenirs, etc. After a stop at the Sydney Visitors Centre and some amazing help from Luisa (we’re set for the rest of the week), we started hitting museums – the perfect rainy day activity. We went to The Rocks Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Customs House Library (featuring a 1:500 model of Sydney under the floor – see below), and the Australia Museum. The Australia Museum is a natural history museum, so we learned about all the animals (4 legged, 2 legged, 8 legged, no legged) in Australia that could kill us. It’s a lot.
We finished the evening by finding a sports bar and watching the F1 race from Korea with many other F1 fans from around the world.
Today it’s the Harbour Bridge, an Opera House tour, and the Taronga Zoo. Can you imagine the crazy animals they’ll have in an Australian zoo??!!!
