Sneaking in some Sun on the Peninsula

Unfortunately for my work ethic, when the sun shines and the air is warm, we (the Events team) are possessed by the urge to bust out of the office and enjoy the weather.  I'm sure we'll be less and less possessed by this urge as there are more and more lovely days, but currently the urge is almost impossible to ignore. Hence, the Events office closed early on Tuesday as Kitty, Dan, and I bugged off to enjoy the rays.

Todd and I gave Kitty a ride back home to Portobello which sits on the peninsula.  First stop - ice cream in MacAndrew Bay and two people less than thrilled to have me documenting the event.

From there, we headed on down the road to Portobello.  We got to check out Kitty's house (so cute!! so sunny!!) and then spent time on the patio hanging out in the sun with Kitty and her husband Dan (not Events team Dan).  Check out the nibbles Kitty just whipped up!  And with her homemade chutney!  Delicious!
Kitty and Dan know the peninsula like the back of their hand and mentioned how great Allans Beach was.  Our friends Gordon and Mark also like Allans Beach, so we got directions and headed over to check it out.
Between the parking area and the beach, you have to walk through a sheep pasture.  You may cross paths with some sheep.  Remember, they own the place.  Not you.
One of many amazing things about New Zealand is the number of beautiful beaches that a) have NO houses anywhere near them and b) are apparently NOT packed with people in the summer.  I guess if you just do the math it's not a surprise.  With only 4.5 million people and a gazillion amazing beaches, the probability that you'll find a parking spot and won't have to mark out your space with caution tape is quite low.

We had a such a lovely afternoon that we jumped for joy...not in sync, but c'est la vie.
Summer here is going to be excellent.
