The Dunedin Botanic Garden are the oldest botanic gardens in New Zealand and are beautifully situated (shockingly) on a steep hill with paths wandering up and down. It includes an aviary with New Zealand birds and other exotic birds (with quite a large parrot collection), a greenhouse with lots of tropical plants, and gardens from Africa, America, Asia and Australia.
Last Saturday was a lovely sunny day which means to everyone in Dunedin - GO OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SUN! Needless to say, we heeded this advice and spent a few hours wandering the gardens. We parked at the top, wandered our way down, had an ice cream, and then wandered back up.
I'm not a particularly big garden or plant person, but it was a nice way to spend a few hours. It would have been a sin for us to leave Dunedin without visiting the Botanic Garden, so we can now leave in peace (phew!).
