We bundled up and headed over to Bath Street with Brittany to line up with the other lantern-makers, stiltwalkers, musicians, and dancers. We got there a bit late, so we were almost at the end of the procession. Ironically, we ended up behind some seaweed - made by a group of Girl Guides led by Claire, one of the OUSA Execs. While the majority of the dolphins were up ahead swimming amongst blue waves, Brittany was swimming with the orange roughy in the seaweed. We've said from the beginning that she's not the smartest dolphin in the bunch, so we weren't surprised.
We planned to take A TON of pictures of Brittany as soon as we lit her up (there are two open flame candles inside), because we were positive she was going to go up in flames. Amazingly enough she didn't, though a nearby piece of seaweed wasn't so lucky. The parade is two laps around The Octagon (click here for link to the Dunedin webcam of The Octagon) followed by fireworks. The whole thing lasted less than an hour - my kind of parade!
The Otago Daily Times has a great little video of the parade - click here to watch it. We'll be posting the video we made soon.
Success!! Excellent work, Brittany!!
