OUSA's Bike Love Day

The aforementioned Kitty Brown hit another winner out of the park with the annual Bike Love Day.  Formerly part of Healthy Lifestyles week, Kitty made it a stand alone event this year, and it was so fun!

The best part of Bike Day was the crazy bikes!  There's a local company called Bikes 4 Fun that has all of these insane bikes (see pictures below).  Basically, it seems like a bunch of grandfathers getting together and tinkering with bikes for fun.  I think Pepere (my grandfather) would have LOVED to one of the Bikes 4 Fun crew.  Click here to see an article with a bit about Bikes 4 Fun.

You have to wiggle your butt to make this one go.

A penny farthing...which everyone seemed to know but me.
Bike Love!
Some bikes needed two people to operate.

Some bikes were very tiny.

Elena stopped by, and in addition to trying out a few crazy bikes on her own, she and I tried out one of the double bikes.

Go Elena!
Someone had the appropriate length legs for this bike.  I'll let you guess who.
Here's a quick video of Elena and I on the bicycle built for 2...

In addition to the crazy bikes, OUSA's resident handyman, Stuart, gave free bike tune ups, and we gave away bike lights and high vis backpack covers.

All in all, the day was a HUGE hit.  Tons of students played on the bikes, and the line for tuneups by Stuart was 20 bikes deep.

If anyone back at home wants to steal this idea, it's a great one.  You just need to find a group of grandpas who love tinkering with bikes to make your event complete!
