One of the things that every New Zealand guidebook tells you to do in Dunedin is the
Taieri Gorge Railway. Their website describes the railway as "
Dunedin's prestige tourist train operating from the historic Railway Station. Departing daily...it takes you on a journey through the rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago. With full commentary, photographic stops and on board refreshments the train offers year round, all-weather entertainment."
We've been saving this trip to take with some of our American visitors, and since Mom and Dad's New Zealand adventure was train-themed, we figured these were the perfect Americans to do it with. While there are some 'newer' cars up front, we were assigned to seats in the older, traditional cars. The windows opened right up, so you could hang your head out the side - watch out for tunnels! It was a lovely ride with (shocker) more spectacular New Zealand landscapes. Sigh.

Love these photos!! So glad you guys had a dose of family from home...especially fond of the sheepdog monument. We had some as kids...they were dumb as posts, but very, very loveable. :) Miss you guys!!
