It's Orientation time at Otago...and it's different.

It's the start of the new academic year here in the Southern Hemisphere, and Orientation starts tomorrow!  Orientation here at Otago (and seemingly in New Zealand) isn't like your average American Orientation.  While there are a few academic things going on put on by the University (get your ID - a new one every year, course approval, and placement tests for freshers aka freshmen/first years), Orientation is basically a week of fun brought to you by OUSA which is technically not a part of the University.  Crazy, huh?
This year, spearheaded by Vanessa, OUSA has opted to only have a 1 week Orientation instead of the normal 2 week Orientation in order to support student success in the classroom.  In a 2 week Orientation, the first week happens when classes aren't in session, but the second week overlaps with the first week of class.  Orientation is basically a music festival.  We sell Orientation passes which get students in to all the events and sell individual tickets as well.  You've got to have money to enjoy Orientation. OUSA's got to make money on it. In addition to postering the campus with Orientation marketing, we poster the town.  All designs done by OUSA's amazing designer, Zina.  There is no doubt it's Orientation week in Dunedin!

This is what OUSA is bringing the freshers of Otago this year...
Phew! Ciao for now - we'll resurface next week!
